In the dark before dawn breaks, I will praise His name and give thanks for His lovingkindness.
When the darkness of night falls, wraps itself around me, and stretches out ahead, I will praise Him in song for He is faithful.
I will praise Him the first thing when I awake and am still wrapped in the covers of night and the last thing as I rest upon my pillow. And as I do, His presence engulfs me.
I do this in my literal 24-hour day, and I do this in the metaphorical days and nights of my life.
I bookend my days with praise. In the times of twilight, at the end and beginning of darkness, I will give thanks to the Lord.
Before the victory is fully manifested, before the answer comes, though I still cannot see, though I have done all to no avail, though I have no recourse, though I feel defeated — yet I will give Him thanks. I will sing praise to His name. I will declare His lovingkindness and His faithfulness.
“It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning,
And Your faithfulness every night,
On an instrument of ten strings,
On the lute,
And on the harp,
With harmonious sound.”
